Thrombophilia evaluations are usually performed to assess the need to extend anticoagulation, hence testing should be performed in a steady state, remote from the acute event. Laboratory assays to detect thrombophilic states include highly sensitive and specific test like molecular diagnosis, immunologic and functional assays. Many coagulation factors and inhibitors are affected during acute thrombosis, acute illnesses, inflammatory conditions, pregnancy certain medications. Antithrombin is decreased by heparin and acute thrombosis whereas protein C & S levels are increased during acute thrombosis, but decreased by warfarin. Lupus anticoagulants are also associated with thromboembolic disease states.

THROMBOPHILIA COMPREHENSIVE PROFILE Test – Cost, Symptoms, and Diagnosis

Thrombophilia is a condition in which the blood has a higher tendency to form clots than normal. This can lead to a higher risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, and stroke. The Thrombophilia Comprehensive Profile Test is used to detect genetic and acquired factors that can lead to thrombophilia. This blog will discuss the cost of the test, its symptoms, and diagnosis.

Thrombophilia Comprehensive Profile Test Cost

The Thrombophilia Comprehensive Profile Test is a specialized blood test that can be quite expensive. The cost of the test in India is around INR 21,000. However, the cost may vary depending on the laboratory where the test is conducted.

It is important to note that this test is not typically covered by insurance, so patients may need to pay out of pocket. Patients should consult with their healthcare provider and their insurance company to determine if the cost of the test is covered.

Symptoms of Thrombophilia

Thrombophilia may not cause any symptoms, and many people may not know they have it until they develop a blood clot. However, some common symptoms of thrombophilia include:

  • Pain, swelling, warmth, or redness in the affected area
  • Shortness of breath or chest pain (if the clot is in the lungs)
  • Numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg (if the clot is in the brain)
  • Changes in vision, speech, or coordination (if the clot is in the brain)

If a person experiences any of these symptoms, they should seek medical attention immediately.

Diagnosis of Thrombophilia

Thrombophilia can be diagnosed through a combination of medical history, physical exam, and laboratory tests. The Thrombophilia Comprehensive Profile Test is one of the laboratory tests used to diagnose thrombophilia.

Other laboratory tests that may be used to diagnose thrombophilia include:

  • Activated Protein C Resistance (APCR) test
  • Anticardiolipin Antibodies test
  • Protein C and Protein S test
  • Antithrombin III test

If a person is diagnosed with thrombophilia, their healthcare provider may recommend medications to prevent blood clots, such as anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs. They may also recommend lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise, weight management, and quitting smoking.

Conclusion

The Thrombophilia Comprehensive Profile Test is an important diagnostic tool for detecting genetic and acquired factors that can lead to thrombophilia. While the test can be expensive, it can help healthcare providers develop an effective treatment plan to prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of serious complications.

If you have any concerns about thrombophilia or the Thrombophilia Comprehensive Profile Test, please consult with your healthcare provider.
