DISSEMINATED INTRAVASCULAR COAGULATION (DIC) PROFILE Test: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Cost
Introduction
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) is a medical condition that affects the body’s clotting mechanism. It is a serious disorder that can lead to abnormal bleeding and clotting. DIC can occur due to a variety of reasons, including infections, cancer, and trauma. The DIC Profile Test is a blood test that helps diagnose DIC and monitors its progression. In this blog, we will discuss the symptoms, diagnosis, and cost of the DIC Profile Test in India.
Symptoms of DIC
DIC can cause a wide range of symptoms, which can vary depending on the underlying cause. Some common symptoms of DIC include:
- Unusual bleeding from the gums, nose, or rectum
- Easy bruising
- Blood in the urine or stools
- Abdominal pain and swelling
- Shortness of breath
- Confusion or disorientation
- Low blood pressure
- Organ failure
If you experience any of these symptoms, you should consult a doctor immediately.
Diagnosis of DIC
DIC is diagnosed through a combination of clinical examination, laboratory tests, and imaging studies. Your doctor will ask you about your medical history and perform a physical examination to check for signs of bleeding or clotting. They may also order the following tests:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Prothrombin time (PT)
- Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT)
- Fibrinogen level
- D-dimer test
If these tests indicate DIC, your doctor may order the DIC Profile Test to monitor the progression of the disease.
What is the DIC Profile Test?
The DIC Profile Test is a blood test that measures various parameters related to DIC, including platelet count, fibrinogen level, and D-dimer level. It helps diagnose DIC and monitor its progression. The test is performed using a blood sample, which is collected from a vein in your arm.
Cost of the DIC Profile Test
The cost of the DIC Profile Test in India varies depending on the location and the laboratory where the test is performed. On average, the cost of the DIC Profile Test in India is around INR 4200.
Conclusion
DIC is a serious medical condition that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. The DIC Profile Test is a useful tool for diagnosing DIC and monitoring its progression. If you experience any symptoms of DIC, you should consult a doctor immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve the outcome of the disease. If your doctor recommends the DIC Profile Test, you can expect to pay around INR 4200 for the test.
