Correction of a prolonged APTT with mixing generally implies a qualitative or quantitative abnormality of one or more clotting factors in the patient plasma. In contrast, failure of APTT to correct completely on mixing suggests the presence of inhibitor in the patient plasma eg. Lupus anticoagulants & inhibitors to specific clotting factors.

MIXING STUDIES – APTT Test cost INR:4500 symptoms diagnosis

When it comes to blood clotting, it’s important to identify any abnormalities that may arise. One of the tests used to diagnose such abnormalities is the APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time) test. This test measures the time it takes for blood to clot and is used to detect certain clotting disorders. One of the procedures used to diagnose clotting disorders is mixing studies. In this blog, we will discuss mixing studies, APTT test, its cost, symptoms, and diagnosis.

What are Mixing Studies?

Mixing studies are a type of laboratory test that is used to evaluate blood clotting. These studies help to determine whether clotting abnormalities are due to a deficiency in clotting factors or the presence of inhibitors. In the test, the patient’s blood is mixed with normal blood. If the blood clotting time normalizes after mixing, it indicates that there is a clotting factor deficiency. However, if the clotting time does not normalize, it may indicate the presence of inhibitors.

What is APTT Test?

APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time) is a blood test that measures the time it takes for blood to clot. It is used to detect certain clotting disorders and to monitor the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapy. The test is performed by drawing blood from a vein in the arm and mixing it with a substance that triggers clotting. The time it takes for the blood to clot is measured and compared to a normal range.

Cost of APTT Test in India

The cost of an APTT test in India typically ranges from INR 1500 to INR 4500. The cost may vary depending on the location and the laboratory where the test is performed.

Symptoms of Clotting Disorders

Clotting disorders may present with a range of symptoms, including:

  • Excessive bleeding
  • Bruising easily
  • Heavy menstrual periods
  • Blood in the urine or stool
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Swelling or pain in the legs
  • Shortness of breath

Diagnosing Clotting Disorders

To diagnose clotting disorders, your doctor may recommend a series of tests, including the APTT test and mixing studies. These tests help to evaluate blood clotting and identify any abnormalities that may be present. Based on the results of these tests, your doctor may recommend further tests or treatment options.

Conclusion

Mixing studies and APTT tests are important diagnostic tools used to evaluate blood clotting and detect clotting disorders. If you are experiencing any symptoms of a clotting disorder, it’s important to speak with your doctor about getting tested. The cost of an APTT test in India typically ranges from INR 1500 to INR 4500. With early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, many clotting disorders can be effectively managed, allowing you to live a healthy and active life.
