Sample Collection

Method: Venipuncture
Laboratory Analysis
A trained phlebotomist will collect a blood sample from a vein in your arm. Mild discomfort may be felt at the puncture site.

Apply gentle pressure to the puncture site. Keep the area clean and dry. Most people can resume normal activities immediately.

How to Prepare
- Duly filled Test Send Out Consent Form (Form 35) is mandatory.
- Collect 2 mL blood in 1 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube; minimum 1 mL is acceptable.
- Separate plasma immediately and freeze.
- Ship frozen and do not thaw the sample.

Understanding Your Results
Normal PAI-1
PAI-1 level within the laboratory reference range; no increased PAI-1-mediated thrombotic tendency identified.
Elevated PAI-1
May indicate reduced fibrinolysis and increased risk of venous or arterial thrombosis. Further thrombophilia testing and clinical correlation are recommended.
Consult a doctor if you have abnormal test results, or if you develop symptoms of a blood clot such as chest pain, shortness of breath, leg pain or swelling, or sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body.
Limitations
