H3N2:

H3N2 is a subtype of the influenza A virus that causes seasonal flu in humans. It is also known as the "Hong Kong flu" because it was first identified in Hong Kong in 1968. H3N2 is one of the three strains of influenza viruses that are included in the annual flu vaccine, along with influenza A H1N1 and influenza B. H3N2 can cause more severe illness and higher mortality rates, especially in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems. In addition to humans, H3N2 can also infect birds and pigs.

Symptoms:

The symptoms of H3N2 influenza are similar to those of other flu viruses and may include the following:

  • High fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea (more common in children)

In some cases, H3N2 influenza can cause more severe symptoms and complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and worsening of underlying medical conditions such as asthma or heart disease. If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention, especially if you are in a high-risk group.
